当中国人发明了“good good study，day day up”（好好学习，天天向上）后，这个看起来有些雷人的词汇就带领着Chinglish（中式英语）一路前进。当四川人发明了“standing flower”（站花）后，川式英语也开始不断出现在川菜菜谱的翻译中。如果是严肃的学者，听过这种统计后大体上有两种反应。一种觉得08奥运都举办过了，外国人看见满街路牌上都是读不通的或读出歧义，这样太丢人了。另一种就是强烈的自豪感了。English到中国变成Chinglish，然后不但被foreigner accept（外国人接受），而且居然还很Popular（流行）。这说明中国在世界上的影响已经相当不一般了，不说跟盛唐比吧，但也相当了不起了。
更多关于Chinglish的笑话，是天才的中国人自己发明的。例如那个著名的颇有诗歌性质的事故现场描述：“one car come,one car go,two cars pengpeng,the people die（一辆车来，一辆车去，两车碰碰人死了。）；“You say what?(你说啥？）→无论是中国人或是外国人看了都不禁会心一笑。
就是这样一个个无名的天才，用幽默溶解了语言的国界，微笑着伸出手，让不同的人牵着手走到了一起。不经意间迸发出的火花，却不知不觉中溶解了冰河——“drink tea（喝茶）”……这些中式英语已经成为了标准英语的一部分，而“博客”、“粉丝”这些生词也逐渐被添加到汉语词典里来。
2013年3月下旬，一段记者访赞比亚官员的今日在网上走红，获得数万微博网友关注和转发。中，一位男记者和赞比亚官员对答，网友称其“发音夹杂方言腔调，语法存在中文思维痕迹”，掀起了一场关于“中国式英语”的争论。 中记者一共用英语提出了三个问题。第一个问题是“What is your view about Five Bricks Countries?” 第二个问题是“How do you see China’s development in recently years”？第三个问题是“How do you see the relationship between China and Zambia in development”？其中，“how do you see”成为了网友吐槽的另一个雷点。 中式英语再次成为了热点。这次不再是指示牌上的英文错误，也不是餐馆不知所云的菜谱，而是中国人自创出来的新词汇：“Smilence”（笑而不语）、“Emotionormal”（情绪稳定），还有更富时代特色的“Chinsumer”（指到国外旅行疯狂购物的中国人）、“Vegeteal”（指开心网上的“偷菜”）。人们在网络上传播和把玩着这些中式英语单词，新词还在不断被发明出来。
从最早我们自己讽刺初学者英文水平低，到后来好多外国人搜集散布在公共场合里不经意间的“巧妙”错用，再到如今中国人开始故意错用甚至自创英语单词，中式英语（Chinglish）的内涵在不断地被拓展，人们对中式英语的态度也由开始的拒绝、嘲笑转变为欣赏、把玩甚至鼓励。语言是时代变迁最敏感的反应器，中式英语繁盛的背后是中外交往更加密切、中国国际影响力的增强———在“Long time no see”、“Good good study，day day up”之后，也许会有更多中式英语成为外国人的日常用语。
有人给中国式英语下了定义：带有中文语音、语法、词汇特色的英语。不过，中式英语进一步被提上议事日程，还是跟大量外国人到中国工作、生活和旅游有关。影响最大的中式英语还是公共场所指示牌和餐馆菜单上的英语，在网络上，它们多数由外国人拍摄，以配文的形式出现，数量可谓成千上万。比如“请携带好随身物品”被写成“Please take good personal luggage”，“先下后上，文明乘车”则是“First under after on,take riding with civility”。有当事者表示，许多地铁站、旅游景点、餐馆和其他公共场所的中英文双语标志，英文翻译最初只为形式齐全，有些只是随便拿字典或者用谷歌翻译之类的软件翻出来完事，并没有太多人注意，可当越来越多的外国人出现在这里，他们首先注意的是英文，于是其中的错误一一浮出水面。 让人意外的是，大多数外国人并不讨厌中式英语，还有不少人真心喜欢。也许跟外国朋友的鼓励有关系，当前一段时间内，许多中国人开始按自己的方式自创英语词汇和句子，如Smilence这样类似Brangelina（布拉德·皮特和安吉丽娜·朱莉夫妻的合称）的“自创合成词”。也有些词把汉语里的俏皮话直译过来，造成错位和有趣的效果，比如“We two who and who？”（咱俩谁跟谁？），“If you want money,I he no. If you want life,I he one.”（要钱没有，要命一条），“American Chinese not enough”（美中不足）。新华社报道称这是“中国式俏皮话丰富了英语”——而这是一种创新的中式英语。
老外对中式英语的喜欢看似意外，其实也容易理解。就好像我们看到外国人学中文，即使错误频出，也不会瞧不起对方一样。而就在学英语的中国人努力改正中国式的语病时，许多外国人却在热心地收集和整理散落在各个角落的中国式英语。当然也有老外充当“语言翻译”努力帮中国城市纠正错误的英文，像北京第二外国语大学的杜大卫。不过，就像英国《卫报》的报道所言，更多老外觉得中国式英语“错得韵味十足”，为字母语言添加了调味剂。对来过中国的老外来说，拍下中式英语的招牌然后上传到网上，已经变成一种时尚。在照片分享网站Flickr上，中式英语的照片已达4千多张，甚至老外们开始交流起哪个风景区和城市的中式英语最多，比如广州的莲花山就是几个老外公认的中式英语的繁盛地。
而总部位于美国德克萨斯州的“全球语言监测机构”（GLM）则从全球视野和英语语言发展的角度给予了中式英语热情洋溢的高度评价。从2005年开始起，Chinglish就被其评为影响全球的十大词汇之一。GLM认为，中式英语正在促使英语产生深刻的变革，大量的中文词汇进入英语，成为英语新词汇最主要的来源，比率可达20%。他们每年都会评选出年度最受关注的中式英语，比如2006年的 “No Noising”（别吵，地道英语为“Quiet,please”）、 “Question Authority”（问讯台，地道英语为“Information Booth”），2008年的Deformed Man Toilet （残疾人厕所，地道英语为“Handiced Restroom”）、 Airline Pulp（航空餐，地道英语为“Food Served Aboard Airlines”）。GLM认为：中文具有令人惊讶的复杂性和丰富性，其产生新词和接受外来新词的能力非常强，而中式英语是一种“可喜的混合体”。 有趣的是，中式英语的被发现和被消灭几乎是前脚和后脚的事。有外国人说，他曾经在机场发现有趣的中式英语，可是没过几天再去的时候，已经被更换成正确的表达方式。也许正是外国人对中式英语的发现让国人开始注重对中式英语的清理，特别是奥运会和世博会在中国城市举行的这几年，北京、上海和其他城市都展开了对中式英语标识的全面纠正工作。而同时传来的却是外国人遗憾的声音“取缔中式英语的消息令人沮丧”，“如果来到中国只看到‘Welcome’，而不是看到‘Welcome your presence’，将是多么索然无味”。美国社交网站Facebook上出现了“救救中式英语”的小组，吸引了8000多名成员。在国内网站如天涯上，保留中式英语的帖子也能得到无数响应。不过，在中国人中，更多的意见是：“这些错误的翻译是挺好笑的，但是这种错误的标识长年累月地被挂在大街小巷醒目之处就更好笑。这种混合式的非标准英语根本没有存在的必要。”有网友表示：“我们不能因为外国人觉得好玩就把它们保留下去。”
