3) 到美国人的家中做客时，主人往往以"家庭式"的便宴来热情款待。吃饭时，主人的全家老小与客人共同坐在一张餐桌周围。有时，客人也可能被让座于主人或女主人的右侧，以示敬意。在家庭般的亲切气氛中，大家边吃边谈。一盘盘的家做菜及其他食品,主客可自由传递而用，或由坐在桌子两端的男女主人为客人盛递。一般而言，"家庭式"宴客，不用仆人做饭或侍餐，炊务均由全家人分担，常常是女主人烧菜，男主人调鸡尾酒。有时客人也可"大显身手"，以增进主客间的亲密气氛。饭后，主客继续叙谈。收拾及洗刷食具，多是孩子们或女主人的事。
